Morning keynote: leading in a changed world – emerging cultural districts and a way forward

Charlotte Ashamu, Creative Economy Specialist at Yale University’s Institute for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage (IPCH), shares insights surfacing through The Director's Network – a cohort of cultural leaders and creative entrepreneurs responsible for the growth of cultural institutions across sub-Saharan Africa – which she leads for IPCH. Often in early stages, these developments provide examples of new operating structures, financial models, and integrated accountability measures that address complex social and civic challenges.

After, Charlotte will be joined by GCDN Chair Adrian Ellis for a conversation about the implications and possibilities of these innovations for cultural districts worldwide – as they grapple with significant changes in how we consume culture and experience public spaces as a result of lasting societal, economic, environmental, and political flux.
